‘Everybody loves going to the Courthouse’, said nobody, except Matlock enthusiasts. The courthouse is full of suits, jurors and county workers. Well at least that what it seems like if it’s your first time. Everybody seems to be walking in the same general direction so you follow along too. Somehow you made it to the front of the building. A plain exterior with big stone or cement pillars greet you as you are ushered into a line to be inspected. Enter the security team.
They are not interested in your court case, why you are here, or your opinion on the local sports team. They want to know if you are carrying any weapons or paraphernalia that may or may not be in your possession. They are the safety team that have been delegated the responsibility of ensuring that every participant in the courthouse, from attorney to public spectator is checked and clear for a safe environment in a difficult world that is a court house.
Organization if you want to get through quickly. Most courthouses will ask you to place not only all metals in a plastic bin but your wallet and belt as well. More safety protocols that have been recently implemented. Your items will be scanned and you will be asked to enter a medical detector loop. If you have medical concerns you should contact the closest deputy to see if there are other accommodations. Lastly you may get a simple “wanding” from another medical detecting device over your person. Followed up by a potential request such as “lift up your pant leg” or “do you know where you are headed?”
A simple ‘yes’ and ‘no’ and you are on your way to deal with your next issue … COURT.
